2. What Data We Collect

We collect only what's necessary to provide the app experience:

• Journal entries: Text you enter during the nightly ritual (brain dump / reflection prompts). These are processed by our AI to generate empathetic responses and are not stored on our servers beyond the current session unless you explicitly choose to save history.
• Usage analytics: Anonymous, aggregated data about how features are used (e.g., which screens users complete, session duration). No personally identifiable information is included. We use this to improve the app.
• Crash reports: Diagnostic data sent when the app crashes, including device type, OS version, and a stack trace. This does not include any personal information or journal content.
• Account information (if applicable): If you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. We do not collect your name, phone number, or payment information unless required for a subscription.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide the core app functionality (AI reflections, breathing exercises)
• To improve app performance and fix bugs
• To respond to your support requests
• To send optional product updates if you opt in

We do not use your journal content to train AI models. Your nightly entries are used only to generate your in-session reflection.

4. Third-Party Services

We use a limited set of third-party services to operate Soft Unwind:

• Anthropic Claude API: Used to generate empathetic AI responses to your journal entries. Data sent to Anthropic is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We do not send identifying information alongside your journal text.
• Apple App Store: Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment details.
• PostHog: We use PostHog to collect anonymous analytics data about how users interact with the app. This data is not linked to any personal identity. No journal content is shared.

5. Data Retention

Journal entries processed by the AI are not retained on our servers after your session ends, unless you have enabled session history in app settings. If session history is enabled, entries are retained for up to 30 days and then automatically deleted.

Account data (email, preferences) is retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.

6. Your Rights & Data Deletion

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time.

• Delete your account and data: Visit our account deletion page or email [email protected] with the subject "Data Deletion Request."
• Clear a single night's entry: Use the "Clear tonight's entry" option on the app's final screen.
• California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell data).
• EU/UK residents (GDPR): You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, and data portability. Contact us to exercise these rights.

7. Children's Privacy

Soft Unwind is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us immediately.

8. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for all data transmitted between the app and our servers. We follow security best practices to protect your data, though no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where required by law, by notifying you in-app or via email.
